STOPP annual survey now online

Last week we sent you part of the 2005 STOPP Annual Survey of Planned Parenthood facilities in the United States. The entire survey is now posted online.

This survey will give you the location (city and state) of every Planned Parenthood facility in the United States. It includes the identification of what kind of abortion is performed at each location.

We firmly believe that it is time the pro-life community recognized the reality of how so-called contraceptives (oral, injectable, patch, etc.) really work. For years the manufacturers of these products have been telling us that one of the mechanisms by which these products work is the prevention of the implantation of already created human beings. Planned Parenthood admits this mechanism, but argues this is not an abortion because of some arbitrary 1965 definition of abortion by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. That definition said that an abortion would only be called an abortion after implantation.

Much scientific evidence of what really happens in the womb has come to light in the last 40 years. We can no longer ignore the truth and let Planned Parenthood define the battle. Killing a newly created human being by not allowing her to implant in the womb is a chemical abortion. Since every Planned Parenthood facility, whether it be a full health clinic, an express clinic, or a contracted services office, is involved in distributing products that cause these chemical abortions, every Planned Parenthood medical facility is an abortion facility.

The annual survey report reflects this truth.

Latest Planned Parenthood financial data

We have received several calls in our offices asking for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America financial data for its fiscal year July 1, 2004 through June 30, 2005.

For the last 10 years, Planned Parenthood has released this data in the first week of December. This year, however, it has not released the data. We are being told by Planned Parenthood that its annual report is being held up and that it should be available by the end of January.

Please know that we will continue to monitor this and will get the new financial numbers to you as soon as they are available.

The 2006 plan against Planned Parenthood

As part of our efforts to have complete information on Planned Parenthood and those that are actively fighting against them, we have been compiling a list of all the localities that are fighting against PP. These fights can take the form of pickets outside PP facilities, fighting PP funding, fighting PP sex education programs, trying to get PP out of local youth groups, demonstrating at PP fundraisers or PP health exhibits, or all of the above.

In doing our annual survey of Planned Parenthood locations, we were able to identify over 100 communities in 30 states that were opposing the Planned Parenthood agenda. We are sure we did not get them all.

Here at STOPP we frequently get calls and e-mails from people around the country asking how they can get involved in the fight against Planned Parenthood. We would like to create a data base with a list of all the fights against PP so we can send these inquiries to the nearest effort against PP.

If you are involved in a fight against PP in your community and would like us to forward inquiries to you or your group, please just do the following:

  • Send us an e-mail and tell us the city of the Planned Parenthood facility that you oppose.
  • Include in your e-mail the name of the group (or individual) that we can tell people to contact, along with an e-mail address (or phone number if there is no e-mail address).

If we work together, we can bring more people into the fight and bring about Planned Parenthood's demise.

Current state of the fight against Planned Parenthood

As we begin 2006, we pause and reflect on the status of the struggle against Planned Parenthood.

As the data in the last four Wednesday STOPP Reports shows, there is much troubling news from Planned Parenthood. Yearly, it increases the number of surgical abortions it performs. In 2004, 255,015 babies died at Planned Parenthood. That was the highest single-year body count ever at PP. We have not yet seen its latest financial numbers, but we anticipate both its total income and the amount it receives in taxpayer dollars will increase.

On the positive side, the number of full-scale Planned Parenthood health clinics continues its decline. As best we can determine, PP had 825 such clinics in December 2005, down from 836 a year earlier. This is the lowest number that PP has had since 1987 (when it had 816 such clinics) and is 113 less than its peak year of 1993 (when it had 938 clinics). We know that Planned Parenthood is consolidating its clinics into larger central offices and opening express satellites, but, even if we add in all the express sites, Planned Parenthood still has 66 fewer clinics today than it did in 1993.

In addition, this Christmas season saw the newspapers throughout Texas moaning about the effect of government funding cuts on Planned Parenthood in that state. If these news accounts are to be believed, we may be seeing the closure of a large number of PP clinics in Texas during 2006. Only time will tell, but please continue praying for the decline of Planned Parenthood's influence in the Lone Star State.

In 2006, we ask that you rededicate yourselves to fighting Planned Parenthood in your communities. We believe the priority activities you should plan for 2006 are:

  • Begin or expand your activities outside PP facilities with a goal of being there every hour they are open.
  • Insist that your local government crack down on the illegal activities at Planned Parenthood. Whether it be the protection of child predators or the overcharging of the taxpayers for "contraceptive" products, Planned Parenthood should be made to obey the law.
  • Focus on having your state legislators remove funding from family planning in general and Planned Parenthood specifically. Planned Parenthood gets one third of its income from the American taxpayer. If we can cut that sharply, PP will begin to lose its position of influence.
  • Increase your attention on every Planned Parenthood sex education effort in the country. Whether it be in the local schools or local youth groups, Planned Parenthood has a financial interest in getting our children involved in a sexual lifestyle and should not be allowed anywhere near them.

As you put in place your plans for 2006, remember that American Life League is here to help. Whether it is through our STOPP project; our Rock for Life outreach to the youth; our literature, signs and publications; or our Associate program; ALL is here to provide you the expertise and resources to fight Planned Parenthood wherever they appear in your community.

We have speakers who will travel to your community to educate and strategize on the best things you can do in your area to stop abortion and defeat Planned Parenthood.

Just ask for us. We are just an e-mail or phone call (540-659-4171) away.
