A life-changing event

It was in 1991 and I was giving a talk against Planned Parenthood in Connecticut. During the talk, I stressed the need to fight Planned Parenthood sex education programs. After the talk, the father of a young high school freshman talked with me about an event that happened to his family.

The father told me of the day that he received a phone call at work from the principal of his daughter's school. He was told that he needed to come to the school because his daughter had caused problems and they needed him to take action. He drove immediately to the school, went to the principal's office, and found his daughter there.

The principal told him that his daughter was in trouble because she had refused to do the day's lesson in health class. The teacher sent the girl to the principal's office and, when she still refused to do the lesson, the principal had called him. They wanted him to tell his daughter to do the lesson.

The father, knowing his daughter was a very smart and cooperative student, asked what the day's health lesson was. He was told the lesson was to "draw a picture of your mother and father having intercourse."

He couldn't believe his ears! He, of course, supported his daughter and told the principal that he was proud of what she had done and that it is the school that had done something wrong. The principal finally relented and allowed his daughter to resume her classes for the day. The father reported that, when his daughter went to the next health class, the teacher asked her to do the lesson she had missed - drawing the picture. She, once again, refused, and the teacher took no further action.

As I was driving home from that talk, the father's account kept replaying in my head. This kind of idiocy is a natural result of the philosophies that Planned Parenthood pushes. Then it hit me. This girl did the right thing, but what about the other 20 young people in the class? They, apparently, all had done the lesson! Just thinking of the assault on the innocence of these 14-year-old girls and boys was enough to make me more determined than ever to expose the Planned Parenthood sex programs and work to defeat them.

Planned Parenthood sex education efforts in Baltimore

Planned Parenthood of Maryland has been pushing sex education in Baltimore, and around the state, for many years. Its web site advertises many outreach programs to teens. Its 2004-2005 annual report brags that it provided sexuality education programs for 3,100 adolescents. It proudly states that its educators are approved to teach contraception classes in Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Harford County Public Schools and Howard County.

According to PPM, 65 percent of its education programs are in public schools, 2 percent in private schools and 13 percent are in community organizations. Its web site brags about its programs just for teens, including:

  • Our Peer Educators are teens too! They complete an intensive 63 hour training program. In its advertising to recruit teens, PP says: "Want to be a sexuality resource for other teens? Become a Peer Educator and get trained to lead programs and answer questions about teen health, sexuality, decision making, contraception, abstinence and HIV/AIDS. Planned Parenthood Peer Educators:
    • Act as a sexuality resource for their peers
    • Conduct Teen Talks (see next item)
    • Represent Planned Parenthood at events
    • Advocate for teen issues at the state legislature
    • Receive community service credit
    • Have fun!"

  • Teen Talk - Teen Talk is a monthly discussion program run by teens for teens. It's fun and informal and there's always refreshments and prizes! Results of Planned Parenthood sex education in Baltimore

So, what has been the result of all this sex education directed at our young people by Planned Parenthood and others?

Of course, Planned Parenthood does not push abstinence in its programs. You can see this from the list of topics in the talks above. What Planned Parenthood of Maryland does do is tell our children on its web site that "Planned Parenthood is teen friendly. We believe that young people can make healthy, responsible choices about sex. Our staff will treat you with respect, and answer all your questions honestly and with the facts."

From our many experiences with those who indoctrinate our children with their sexuality education programs, such as the one in the Connecticut high school, we maintain that Planned Parenthood's so-called education programs will result in more children having sex at an earlier age, as well as a greater increase in sexually transmitted diseases and other problems.

Earlier this month, independent researchers did a survey of teen sexual activity in Baltimore, Maryland - just the location of all these Planned Parenthood teen outreach programs. The survey of 2,311 youth was conducted in the city of Baltimore by Dr. Danielle Ompad and colleagues for the New York Academy of Medicine and published in the most recent issue of The Archives of Sexual Behavior.

The study group found that 42 percent of the youth surveyed had engaged in vaginal intercourse by the age of 14 - a 9 percent increase over 1995 figures as reported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. The average age for initiating vaginal intercourse was 14.8 years. Dr. Ompad said the findings raise concerns over the potential for a spike in sexually transmitted disease and teen pregnancies.

There you have it. Planned Parenthood puts in place all these programs to sexualize our children and the result is to rob the innocence of these children.

To add insult to injury, Planned Parenthood of Maryland reports it received $1.2 million of our taxpayer money in 2005 and a total of $9.7 million since 1998! You and I are paying to have more of our children lose their virginity by the age of 14!

God may one day hold us accountable for the good or evil done with our tax dollars. We must do everything possible to put an end to the funding of these horrible programs.

Let's do something

Of course, there is nothing unique about the Planned Parenthood sex education programs in Baltimore. PP pushes the same types of programs with the same predictable results all across the country.

What we need to do is to peacefully and prayerfully shut down every Planned Parenthood facility in the country. The secret to doing that is to keep Planned Parenthood away from our children and away from our money.

You can do that by protesting every local event your Planned Parenthood holds. For example, PP is holding the following two fundraisers this week and one next week (note that the contacts are Planned Parenthood e-mail addresses):

  • Planned Parenthood of Montana (which holds several weekly "Teen Board" meetings across the state) is holding a "Sex and Sensibilities" dinner at the Great Falls International Airport, Top of the Falls Room, on April 28 starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and PP is soliciting $500 sponsorships. For more information, contact Jill.Baker@ppmontana.org

  • Planned Parenthood of Nebraska and Council Bluffs is holding a "Bountiful Book Sale" at the State Fair Grounds from April 27 to April 30. For more details contact sharon.robino-west@ppncb.org

  • Planned Parenthood of Idaho will be celebrating the first anniversary of Lake Harbor Health Care Center by giving out, "FREE EC, FREE Breast Cancer Screening, FREE Pregnancy testing, Peace of Mind STI Testing, DRAWING for one year's supply of birth control." The event will take place on Tuesday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 3668 North Harbor Lane, Boise (Off State Street between Eddie's Diner and the Idaho Athletic Club). For more details, contact rory.williamson@ppfa.org

STOPPers should be outside all of these events educating attendees on the harm Planned Parenthood does to our children.

Please, remember the 20 children in that Health Class in Connecticut in 1991 that did not have the knowledge or the courage to refuse to draw the picture of their parents having intercourse. Get sex education out of your schools. You can learn how by reading our book, Parent Power, which you can obtain by call our resource department at 866-LET-LIVE (866-538-5483).

Finally, remember to take action opposing all taxpayer money going to Planned Parenthood. Sign our petition at www.StopPlannedParenthoodTaxFunding.com and let every official running for any elected office know you want to stop the money to Planned Parenthood.
