Mother of Planned Parenthood president dies
On September 13, Ann Richards, former governor of Texas and mother of Planned Parenthood Federation of America president, Cecile Richards, died at her Austin home. Ann Richards was 73 years old and had battled esophageal cancer.
We ask all our readers to say a prayer for the repose of her soul and for the Richards family as they cope with the loss of their mother and grandmother.
Planned Parenthood fighting parental notification in California
Planned Parenthood is conducting a major campaign against Proposition 85 in California. This measure would require that parents be notified prior to any abortion being performed on their minor daughter.
Planned Parenthood does not want parents involved and is fighting this.
For further information, go to the pro-life web site www.YESon85.net.
Planned Parenthood fighting parental notification in Oregon
In a similar battle, Planned Parenthood is also conducting a campaign to defeat Ballot Measure 43 in Oregon. Like the California initiative, this measure would require that no abortions could be performed on a minor child unless parents were notified at least 48 hours in advance.
Once again, Planned Parenthood sees parental involvement as a negative and is working to defeat the measure.

Planned Parenthood fighting parental notification in Illinois
Planned Parenthood is upset about parental notification in Illinois. Here are excerpts from an entry from the web site of Planned Parenthood Action Illinois:
This morning (September 19) numerous papers reported that the Illinois Supreme Court has decided to revive a 10 year old state law that would prohibit minors from obtaining an abortion without first notifying a parent. Read the Chicago Tribune article: "State court revives teen abortion law."
Parents rightfully want to be involved in their teenager's lives and all parents want what is best for their children. But good family communication can't be mandated by government. This law puts vulnerable teens - those who live in abusive or otherwise troubled homes - in harm's way, or forces them to go to court.
In other states, when parental notification laws make teenagers choose between talking with parents or having an illegal or unsafe abortion, some teens choose the illegal abortion - even though it is dangerous. If - for whatever reason - our daughters can't or they won't come to us, we must make sure they get safe, professional, medical attention and quality counseling from caring doctors and nurses.
In other words, Planned Parenthood wants to be able to kill your grandchildren with an invasive medical procedure performed on your minor child and does not even want you to know about it.
Planned Parenthood must be stopped!
New York takes lead on funding Planned Parenthood list
As we continue our research on state funding of Planned Parenthood, we received the data from New York and, with just two states left to hear from, it has taken the lead as the state that gives the most money to Planned Parenthood.
New York reported having 39 separate contracts with various Planned Parenthood affiliates in the state. The contracts totaled $23,022,037 for fiscal year 2005.
That places New York just above the $21,378,451 that Planned Parenthood received from Texas in 2005.
A review of the state agencies in New York that contracted with Planned Parenthood shows that, in addition to the family planning funds, Planned Parenthood received taxpayer dollars from: the criminal witness assistance program; the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender health program; the WIC food program; the child health program; among others. It even received $61,119 from the Labor Department to pay for employee "skill building."
Once we have data from the last two states (California and Pennsylvania), we will publish a complete list of state funding of Planned Parenthood.
We encourage all of you to work to end taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood in your state and to have every pro-lifer you know sign our on-line petition against taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. You can sign the petition online.
