Planned Parenthood opening in McMinnville, Oregon
We have been reporting to you for a number of years that Planned Parenthood has been closing clinics at a consistent rate - 123 closed since 1995. Evidently, Planned Parenthood is trying to reverse that trend.
Last week we reported that Planned Parenthood is trying to open an abortion facility in Aurora, Illinois. This week comes news that Planned Parenthood is also trying to open a new facility in McMinnville, Oregon.
In speaking of the new facility, Nancy Bennett, vice president of public affairs for Planned Parenthood of Columbia/Willamette, told the Oregonian, "There's the desire to have more sites in more locations, but it's really a question of where's the most need and population."
The new facility will be located at 130 N.W. Sixth Street in McMinnville. The plan is to open by mid-September. Planned Parenthood says it will be a clinic that provides family planning services. The newspaper reported, "Administrators want time to evaluate the region and patient needs before deciding whether to offer abortion services. Planned Parenthood provides abortion services at its clinics in nearby Salem and Beaverton."
If past history is any indicator, Planned Parenthood will open the clinic and then quickly "discover there is a 'need' for abortion in the area."
As Planned Parenthoods around the country begin to push for expansion and opening more and more clinics, it is critical that pro-lifers organize demonstrations against existing clinics and watch for any signs of PP entering their communities. We are here to help in any local fight against PP. If you already have demonstrations going on or want to know where to find demonstrations in your area, just e-mail us at STOPP@ALL.org.
Pro-lifers at Planned Parenthood's Teen Savvy in Dallas
On July 26, Planned Parenthood held an event called Teen Savvy in Dallas, Texas. Teen Savvy is the annual workshop at which Planned Parenthood of North Texas promotes its sex education agenda to children ages 11 and up. It focuses on children from various social service agencies who are bussed in for the event. This year marks the 18th annual Teen Savvy.
Forty-two faithful citizens from Dallas and Fort Worth stood to confront Planned Parenthood of North Texas at its annual sexual indoctrination of our children. Organizations that participated were Catholic Pro-Life Committee of North Texas (Respect Life Ministry of the Diocese of Dallas), Catholics Respect Life of the Diocese of Fort Worth, Texans Opposed to Planned Parenthood, and Operation Save America (OSA) Dallas - all under the banner of the Dallas-Area Coalition Against Planned Parenthood. Here is the firsthand report:
Pro-lifers started arriving at T.W. Browne Middle School at 8:15 a.m. We spread out and witnessed to the truth. We held the red "Stop Planned Promiscuity" signs, the purple "Planned Parenthood Steals Souls" signs, the "Planned Parenthood - America's Largest Abortion Provider - 33% funded by your tax $$$" signs, and the new bright yellow "Chastity First ... Don't become Planned Parenthood's Fool" signs which everyone wanted (thank you, Pro-Life Waco)! The vans carrying the children started arriving a little after 9:00. Many of them were unmarked. Some of the children arrived in private vehicles, but the majority of the marked vans were from Girls, Inc. (as is the norm every year). Other vans were from West Dallas Community Center, Juvenile Department of Dallas County, Jubilee Center, Nexus Recovery Center, and Promise House (children's shelter and maternity home run by Lovers Lane United Methodist Church).
We tried to pass out information to the vehicles driving through the entrance gate. Several people made sure to get the attention of the kids as they were entering the building; however, Planned Parenthood staff and volunteers did their best to usher the kids inside promptly.
At one street corner, pro-lifers were able to speak with, and give literature to, people in their vehicles as they stopped and asked what was going on. They seemed to be surprised about the Planned Parenthood agenda and that a program like this was going on in their neighborhood. One lady welcomed the information and said, "You know I've heard of Planned Parenthood and I believe what you are saying." She said she was going to tell her friends what Planned Parenthood does and then wanted to know the name of our organization in order to get involved.
We thank the Lord that he gave us such a cool morning - very unusual for Dallas in July. The morning was also quiet. There was not nearly the volume of vans unloading as we had experienced in previous years. We also thank God for this!!! Hopefully the word is getting out about Planned Parenthood and Teen Savvy.
Thank you to all who came out to stand with DCAPP to confront and exposure Planned Parenthood's agenda of death. We were especially heartened to see many new people, including youth, who had never been out with us before.
Pro-lifers at Planned Parenthood's Nobody's Fool in Waco
On July 5, Planned Parenthood Waco held its 18th annual Nobody's Fool youth conference. Our count is that Planned Parenthood lured approximately 300 youngsters going into grades five through nine to the half-day event. Children in grades 7-9 are given the soft-porn book, It's Perfectly Normal. The theme of the book is that anything sexual that you can do or imagine is perfectly normal. What Planned Parenthood delivers is "comprehensive sex education"; i.e., the promotion of promiscuity that ultimately generates profit for Planned Parenthood.
As in past years, the pro-life community of Waco provided a strong witness and challenge to Planned Parenthood on this day. The challenge took two forms. One was communication with adults and children to turn them away from the Planned Parenthood event. This effort was led by Pastor Ronnie Holmes of the Church of the Open Door. The second was a Pro-Life Waco news conference revealing evidence of Planned Parenthood Waco's failure to report statutory rape of its child clients. The press conference was delivered by Barbara Myers and John Pisciotta, co-directors of Pro-Life Waco.
Armed with literature and under the guidance of Pastor Holmes, approximately 20 people engaged in parking lot interventions. They informed parents and caregivers about the truth of what kids were about to be exposed to at the Nobody's Fool propaganda conference.
There was a church van from a small town about 30 miles from Waco that was transporting some of their youth to this event. When some of the pro-lifers approached them and began speaking the truth to the leaders, the Planned Parenthood volunteers began calling for reinforcements to try to forcefully persuade them to stay. The bottom line results were that this van, along with all the youth, refused to go into the conference. A comment from one of the church leaders in the van was that they clearly saw a battle going on that day between light and darkness, and between good and evil. Church leaders have subsequently contacted Pastor Holmes about help with abstinence education in their city.
Pro-Life Waco takes on Planned Parenthood about reporting requirements
The second pro-life challenge to Planned Parenthood on the occasion of Nobody's Fool was the Pro-Life Waco news conference on Planned Parenthood Waco's failure to report underage sex or statutory rape. Standing with Barb Myers and John Pisciotta for the conference were over 50 pro-life allies. Two Waco television stations and the Waco Tribune-Herald covered the news conference.
Pro-Life Waco revealed results of their two-year investigation on statutory rape reports from Planned Parenthood Waco. The purpose was to either refute or substantiate the prior claim by Planned Parenthood's CEO that they have made mandated reports of statutory rape in 2005-2006 at the rate of 98 per year.
The issue of compliance with mandatory reporting of statutory rape has many legal implications. Of course there are the minds, bodies and souls of the children being raped. Also, Title X federal family planning funding requires that all recipient organizations comply with relevant state laws. If Planned Parenthood Waco or any other Planned Parenthood affiliate flagrantly breaks the law, their funding from our tax dollars could be denied.
Through an investigator specializing in open records inquiries of government agencies, Pro-Life Waco obtained logs of Planned Parenthood reports to the Waco Police Department and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. PP Waco reporting to the Waco PD for 2000-2005 revealed reports at an annual rate of 3.3 per year. Regarding Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, which has a computer-based reporting system, another four reports per year were found for 2004-2006.
Pro-Life Waco asked the important legal question: Where are the other 91 reports? Planned Parenthood Waco claims 98, while Pro-Life Waco finds an average of only seven per year.
In addition to the yearly numbers, the Waco PD reports show a very unusual pattern. In 2004, there was substantial number of reports to Waco PD - 13 for the year. In March alone of 2004, there were six police reports of statutory rape. On the single day of March 8, there were three reports of child rape by Planned Parenthood. Three was the total number of reports of statutory rape to the Waco PD in all of 2000-2003! So there was a short period of time when statutory rape was being reported by PP Waco. Then in 2005, the total reports to Waco PD plunged to four. Did a Planned Parenthood employee get fired for following Texas law?
The Pro-Life Waco news conference was covered extensively by WorldNetDaily and the Waco Tribune Herald. Go to www.ProLifeWaco.org for links to these news stories, the news conference statement, video of the news conference, other video relating to Planned Parenthood violation of statutory rape reporting requirements in other states.
