Planned Parenthood moving into Dubuque

Planned Parenthood is going to move into a new center in Dubuque, Iowa, as confirmed by Jenifer Vick, director of development and communications of Cedar Rapids-based Planned Parenthood of East Central Iowa to the Telegraph Herald newspaper. However, that is all the information that Vick would divulge: "We have not opened our doors, so we are not confirming any time line or location. Until we are prepared to open our doors, that won't be happening." Planned Parenthood is obviously continuing its pattern of being tight-lipped and secretive.

Steven Brody, of Dubuque County Right to Life, says that this is just an invitation for the pro-life movement to become more active in its fight against Planned Parenthood: "We have to continue to educate the community about Planned Parenthood - who they are, what they are and what their agenda is." Brody also points out that abortion is not the only evil that Planned Parenthood sells: "They have an agenda to target children, to have them have sex as early as they can get them to."

This is the second time that Planned Parenthood has tried to move a facility into Dubuque. The first attempt was in 1990, when it announced that by January 1992, Planned Parenthood would be moving into Dubuque and opening a facility that would not be committing abortions. However, the pro-life movement sought to stop Planned Parenthood and held a "Protect Our City from Planned Parenthood" prayer rally at Louis Murphy Park. Planned Parenthood announced in 1992 that budget cuts would not allow them to move in as planned. Brody and many others believe that the real reason was because of overwhelming opposition, and they are ready to rally opposition again if Planned Parenthood continues with its plans to move into their community.

Planned Parenthood supporters vandalize yards in Cincinnati

Anti-Planned Parenthood protesters in Cincinnati have been waking up to empty yards that once displayed signs poignantly expressing opposition to Planned Parenthood's desire to move into a residential neighborhood. Signs that said "Save Our Children, Stop Planned Parenthood" have been stolen from all but a few yards. However, the action of what appear to be Planned Parenthood's supporters did not stop there. A facility where the anti-Planned Parenthood campaign stored extra signs, T-shirts and brochures has been vandalized and looted.

Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Ohio has been implementing Planned Parenthood's current strategy of acquiring new property under a different name, to avoid arousing opposition. PPSW purchased property at 2016 Ferguson Road in Western Hills under the name Mount Auburn Parking LLC. The facility will be located within a block of a local high school that is predominantly African- American, which is not surprising, since Planned Parenthood aggressively targets minorities.

Pro-lifers in Cincinnati have organized an effort against Planned Parenthood and the signs are part of that effort. For more information on the fight, go to www.protectcincinnati.org.

Next 40 Days for Life campaign starts soon

40 Days for Life has been hugely successful in fighting against the abortion industry, including Planned Parenthood. They are planning to launch their third 40-day long campaign of prayer, fasting, ongoing prayer vigils and community outreach on September 24. The protest will run until November 2.

So far, the campaigns have been very successful in reaching out to pro-lifers everywhere. David Bereit, who heads the 40 Days for Life campaign has just announced that 173 cities in 45 states will be participating in 40 days of prayer and fasting, 40 days of constant vigil outside of abortion facilities, and 40 days of community outreach.

Bereit also mentions the success that the program has had in saving the preborn children: "We've heard reports of 514 children spared from abortion due to the 40 Days for Life efforts. We've seen five abortion clinic workers quit their jobs and leave the abortion industry, thanking the prayer volunteers for helping them to get out of that business. And two abortion facilities have gone out of business."

Many 40 Days for Life campaigns have focused on Planned Parenthood facilities. We encourage all our supporters to become active in the streets in front of Planned Parenthood. Visit American Life League's Map Room to find the nearest PP facility and make your voice heard or join the next 40 Days for Life campaign. God Bless!

Pro-life healthcare workers fighting for conscience rights

The federal Department of Health and Human Services' recent proposal, which includes an accurate definition of abortion, also includes a regulation that would deny federal funding to any healthcare provider that does not allow its employees to opt out of providing any services that contradict their personal beliefs. This includes the provision of birth control pills, IUDs and Plan B emergency contraceptives - which can all cause early abortions.

The proposed regulation defines abortion as "Any of the various procedures - including the prescription, dispensing and administration of any drug or the performance of any procedure or any other action - that results in the termination of the life of a human being in utero between conception and natural birth, whether before or after implantation."

The proposal has the backing of many conservatives, members of Congress and pro-lifers because doctors and other healthcare workers who refuse to offer services that kill preborn children are facing increasing discrimination and attacks. This specific regulation simply enforces their constitutional right to exercise their freedom of conscience

Planned Parenthood is frantic about this proposed regulation and has begun a massive campaign to block its implementation. Help defend preborn babies and ethical healthcare workers by encouraging your local member of Congress to support the HHS proposal or send a letter to Mike Leavitt, HHS Secretary.

Durango school district kicks Planned Parenthood out

According to a recent newsletter that American Life League received from LifeGuard, an ALL associate group located in Durango, Colorado, Planned Parenthood is now banned from teaching sex education classes in the 9R school district.

Sandra Berman-LaFrance, head of curriculum development for 9R, says that PP will be replaced by teachers who have been trained to teach what has been referred to as "comprehensive" sex ed classes.

Unfortunately, Colorado is one of the states that mandate comprehensive sex education rather than giving the children a chastity message. There is still much work left for Colorado residents, but getting Planned Parenthood out of this school district is a great first step. Congratulations!

Protest at Planned Parenthood's Teen Savvy Seminar

On July 24, a group of about 30 protesters gathered outside of T.W. Browne Middle School in Dallas, Texas to protest Planned Parenthood of Northern Texas' 18th annual sex education seminar for children from poor and minority families. Social service organizations active in the lower-income areas of Dallas brought in children aged 11-17 by the busload for PPNT's Teen Savvy Seminar.

Protestors

Many different social service agencies participated in this seminar, including West Dallas Community Center, Boys and Girls Clubs and Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center. The buses started to arrive at 9:20 a.m. and continued to come until 10:40 a.m.

The Dallas Area Coalition Against Planned Parenthood was joined this year by a local pastor who is a member of L.E.A.R.N., (Life Education and Research Network, Inc.). Among the crowd were the president of Dallas County Right to Life and his wife, who is a member of a local school board.

One eyewitness had this to say afterwards, "When I saw the vans from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dallas, I called the director immediately. I identified myself and explained why I was calling. The woman was very interested in the information I gave her about Planned Parenthood's history and present activities. I asked her to Google 'Margaret Sanger' and to visit the PP youth web site 'Teenwire.' Anyway, she said that based on what I had told her so far, she was going to reconsider whether or not they would participate next year because they do this every year. She also asked if I knew of another similar event where they could bring these and other youth that would offer similar activities. She really likes the stuff that PP offers for the day, but knowing what it could lead to, she knew it was not a good thing for the youth to get involved with them. I told her perhaps we could organize something for next summer."

Another protester commented, "I spoke with a very concerned and puzzled public relations manager. He was appalled that a Salvation Army bus was at a Planned Parenthood event and said categorically they do not support Planned Parenthood and would never send children to one of their events. Since there were no markings on the bus as to which Salvation Army branch it came from, the only thing I could give him was the license plate number and the color of the bus, which was yellow. He promised to investigate and call me back. Here is what he said. It seems that in January of this year, the Salvation Army took over control of Casa, the youth shelter that had been administered by the YMCA. They had a yellow mini-bus and when the Salvation Army took over, the writing on it changed to their name. So this was the bus that was at Teen Savvy. He said it was easy to find this out as all the other Salvation Army buses are white. The public relations manager spoke to the head of Casa (all the same people from the YMCA are still there) and told her that Salvation Army does not participate in Planned Parenthood events - and the reason - and from now on, Casa is not to [participate] either. The lady had no idea what the problem with Planned Parenthood is - but she does now! The PR manager told me this will not happen again. In fact, he said when he found out where the bus was from, he ordered it to leave Teen Savvy!!!"

Thank you, DCAPP, for continuing their fight against Planned Parenthood and congratulations!
